David Linden MP, Secretary & Treasurer of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Fairs and Showgrounds and Member for the Glasgow EastConstituency, addresses the Prime Minister directly, in the House of Commons on Monday this week (23rd November).
David Linden MP himself commented:
“I’m very pleased to have secured a commitment from the Prime Minister this evening over support for Showpeople.
Those who run fairs and showgrounds are one group who have suffered a substantial financial impact due to the pandemic but have perhaps not received support. Glasgow East has a sizeable and historic community of Showpeople and I’m keen to make sure they are not forgotten about as we head into winter.”
This is definitely another step in the right direction in the campaign that the Showmen’s guild has been spearheading with Parliamentarians, to secure both governmental support for Showmen opening with their fairs in local communities and for finding to cover their losses, for many of them, not having been able to open overall this season
The Showmen’s Guild is thankful once again to David Linden, Secretary & Treasurer of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Fairs and Showgrounds and MP for Glasgow East for his addressing the Prime Minister directly today in the House of Commons.
That David Linden mentioned Showmen on the floor of the House of Commons, magnifies their story and it is also in Hansard, for the record, to be referred back to in the coming months.
The work continues with the Westminster government and the Local Government Association (LGA); as well as with legislator colleagues at Holyrood; Senedd Cymru (the Welsh Assembly) in Cardiff and The Northern Ireland assembly at Stormont in Belfast; along with their Local Government Associations; to address this issue for the 2021 season.
